TreeGuards
TreeGuards are plastic sleeves that allow light through their side walls.
Benefits:
- Protects broadleaves during the critical first years from rabbits, deer and wind.
- Allows herbicide to be sprayed around the base without the risk of contacting the young tree. Weeds steal light and moisture--and often kill (or stunt) more seedlings than deer or rabbits.
Details:
TreeGuards are 36 in. long, double-wall, light-brown plastic. It only takes a minute to place the 3 in. diameter TreeGuard tube around the young tree and slide a 3/8 in. FiberRod™ post (sold separately) through
the precut holes.
We do this in the spring and just push the FiberRod post into the soil (10 in.) by hand.
(If deer aren't a concern, you can save $$ by cutting the 36 in. TreeGuards in half and using 3 ft FiberRods.)
TreeGuards last about 5 years. FiberRod posts will last 10-plus years.
NOTE: FiberRod posts are sold separately below (item #321840 or #231841)
