Common Uses

  • To warm lambs, kids and sick animals.
  • To warm chickens and ducks.
  • Can be used in dog kennels for puppies and short-haired dogs.
  • Use in barns or stables for any animal that is sick or cold.

Specs

  • Lamp cover is orange and base is either off-white or black (depends on what we have in stock at the time).
  • 16 ft cord
  • Uses infrared or regular bulbs up to 175. The clear bulb gives more illumination. Red bulbs provide slightly more heat.
  • Bulbs not included. (Smooth and pressed glass bulbs feature a "never-loose" base.)

Benefits

Heat Lamp

  • Safer than other lamps
  • Versatile and effective
  • Durable
  • Heavy duty plastic shield keeps animals from damaging bulb.
  • Very robust

Infrared bulbs

  • "Never-loose" base—they don't use cement adhesive. Instead, the base screws into the bulb. A weld of solder holds the base onto the threads. NOTE: If a never-loose base ever becomes loose, we will replace at no cost!
  • 6-month non-stop life.
  • We prefer the pressed glass bulbs because of their tough and rugged PAR glass.
Tips

  • To save energy $$, use a ThermoCube.
  • Snap Clips make hanging the heat lamp quick and easy.
  • To help reduce pecking with your birds, use a red colored bulb.
  • See PDF above for a diagram of replacement parts.

Precautions

Please see CAUTION photo under "See More Images" above. Never lay a heat lamp (of any make or manufacture) on straw or any other flammable surface—for any length of time. Why do we show you this? Because we included this photo on p. 60 of our 2012 “Equipment That Works!” catalog and p. 16 on our Poultry flyer—and we regret doing so.  To prevent any incident (there has been none to our knowledge) we felt we should show you this as a cautionary note.

Keep lamp at least 20" away from the ground/animal(s). To ensure safety please self-inspect the plug and connection (or ask a certified electrician to do so.)
To help reduce fire risk:

  1. Thread power cord into a wire panel (see "More Images" above). If the heat lamp happens to get knocked free, the cord & panel will support the lamp until the lamp can be properly attached.
  2. Use a back up Braided Cord and tie around the lamp for additional security.
Do not use bulbs rated higher that 250w. Use quality bulbs as some low quality bulbs have broken off leaving the metal filament in the ceramic fixture.

Please read this note regarding purchase of items #557034 or #557035.

A customer has reported problems screwing PAR (pressed glass) heat lamp bulbs into our orange heat lamp fixtures—so we’ve studied this in detail.

We have concluded that, because the PAR bulbs feel so sturdy and unbreakable in the hand (which they are), some users (including myself) are inclined to screw them in with more hand strength than they use for normal heat lamp bulbs (which are fragile and feel that way).

Using too much strength to tighten the bulbs doesn’t damage the bulbs—but it does deform the brass colored metal inside the ceramic fixtures of our heat lamps.

Mild deformation due to over tightening makes it difficult to screw bulbs in and out of the fixture. Major deformation due to over tightening can flatten the metal so much that the bulb can actually fall out.

Even though we find our lamps safer than others, we take every precaution to make sure our lamps stay safe. We tie them 20” or more above the ground, we wrap the cord around our panels, we clip them to the panels, and we tie them to the panels. Even when they’re attacked by “mom” (a playful ewe) they stay secure. We only 175w heat bulbs with these lambs.

What more can I say? These are excellent lamps. You can feel how heavy duty they are right from the start; I'm never going to get one of those puny little metal lamps from the farmstore ever again. :D
I can use these for my pigs, lambs, and chickens, and I don't have to worry about broken bulbs.

My chickens LOVE IT!!! They couldn't wait to get into the coop after my husband installed it. They enjoy staying warm during the cold nights that we now have in Texas. I bought the 175 watt bulb and it works fine for the small coop we have. Not too hot at all. Love the safety features it has. Very well built and I thought the price was perfect for the quality of the product. It was shipped in a very timely matter also.

I really like the design and plastic construction, but purchasers need to know that it is EXTREMELY difficult to open the latch that allows the bulb cover to swing open in order to change the bulb. It arrived unlatched and I almost didn't get it closed the first time I installed a bulb. I am a woman and I cannot squeeze the latch sufficiently with both hands and finally resorted to using a pair of slip-jawed pliers. Those work fine, but it took a fair amount of frustration first to figure it out.

Love these lamps. I use a carabiner to hang them and plug them into a thermo-cube so they do on when it gets very cold. I use a creep corral panel so the goats and calves can go under the lamp but it keeps the larger cattle out of that area. They definitely prefer that area in really cold weather. Keeps me from worrying about potential straw fires.

If the bulb burns out on a very cold morning take the lamp in where their is heat before opening the guard. When it is cold it is quite brittle and will break. Even with that small problem this lamp is the best on the market

I have 40 hair sheep ewes and lamb in Feb. and Mar. When it can still be pretty cold. I have 5 of heat lamps, 3 are in the jugs for the new lambs, and 2 I have hanging about 6 ft above the ground in the common loafing area. At night the lambs sleep in the circles of heat and light. The heat lamps are very well built with nice long cords, eliminating the need for extension cords. The lamp itself does not get hot like the metal ones, and the bulb is well protected. This product was recommended by a friend who is very happy with them too.

We trust this unit in with our horned ewe's at lambing time. No other unit would work for our situation. The locking cage around the bulb is a neccesary safety feature. The unit is durable easy to mount (we chain these from overhead)and we add more as our flock grows. Still using the original bulbs purchased years ago.

These are by far the best heat lamps to have in your barn. I now have a dozen of these lamps and they have saved many kids during a cold winter spell while giving me peace of mind of their safety in my barn. The smooth lamp heat bulbs are worth every penny with their durability. Before switching to these bulbs I would have to change bulbs at least three times per lamp per season. These bulbs are on their second kidding season without breaking. Love Premier Products.

I have purchased 5 of these POS heat lamps. I fell for their claim on how great they were. What a joke! Of the 5 I purchased, 3 of them are broken. Two of them broke where the cage snaps into the body and the other where the handle snaps into the body. Great idea but do not stand up to real use. Of course their customer service is even worse than their product. I am going back to the cheap heating lamps that work just fine, just make sure that they are properly secured.

Used both of mine for December & February lambings, kept the ewes and lambs warm in my open stalls, and even when bumped, are safe and do not break. Had one of the metal ones broken by frisky lamb, and left open bulb wires that could have caused a fire or electrocuted a baby! HIGHLY recommend these sturdy lamps. Yes, replacing the bulbs is a bit more difficult (cover is MEANT to stay on tightly), but well worth the protection. Love them!

so excited to get these - loved the safety factor, even the size. however, now that we've tried to use them are VERY disappointed. impossible to open the cage without a using a pair of pliers, and they just do not get warm. used them in coop and had to have it practically resting on the floor to generate heat for chicks; used it with baby goats, and no one went under it - again no heat. we also purchased and used 2 of recommended bulbs which we love. end up using bulbs in our old metal fixtures. we were willing to pay the hefty price, but ended up very disappointed.

We have been using your heat lamps for several years now and I have finally decided to own up and tell our story....at first I was not as careful and did not "second string" the heat lamps thinking that one hanger would be okay...one cold night I closed everyone (sheep, goats, cow, llamas)in the barn to stay dry and warm, ewes with new lambs in jugs, the next morning I walked into a barn filled with smoke, one heat lamp had been knocked to the floor of the jug. Thank goodness for the size and duribility of the lamp, it took awhile for it to melt and scorched the beams...had this been any other lamp, I beleive that it would have been tragic! The animals are my friends and the barn is over 100 years old, I would have never forgiven myself. God bless Premier and the forethought of these great lamps!

At first this seemed like the perfect heat lamp. But during the second winter of using the two we bought, both of them fell apart. The inner wires connected to the ceramic bulb holder literally fell out of the lamp housing, shorting out the bulb. We were very disappointed because they were expensive, and seemed so safe and well made. We had them hanging (not by the cord) in our two chicken coops (covered, not wet). It does get very cold here, which is why we use the lamps. We have gone back to the regular metal lamps.

This is just what's needed for kidding goats. Goats will stand on their hind legs to investigate about anything and they will break a normal heat lamp. If you put it up out of the doe's reach, it's too high to be useful. This one I can put down within a couple feet of the ground where the kids can get some good heat from it in cold weather. The doe will just push it out of her way and won't get burned

I just started with chickens - my parents had them - and all they had was the old tin hoods and they added a mesh underneath to catch broken bulbs. This lamp is MUCH better. Chickens can fly up and hit it and will be safe. No concerns about fire - when a bulb breaks - and they do break from time to time - this lamp will catch the big pieces. Highly recommend.

Just got 2 heat lamps just in time for kidding. The nights are still getting quite cold here. These lamps are so heavy duty that I will not be worried about them like I was worried about the old metal ones. I really like the cage/mesh at the bottom. Even if the bulb broke, the pieces would fall against the grid and cool before ever getting to the bedding. A friend had these lamps for her kidding season-- I saw them and ordered them right away. I have always been afraid of heat lamps so purchased two to try. Hung the first one tonight and hope it works as well as it looks. Please don't pack your great merchandise in dirty plastics as it makes a mess in the house. I love your products, but I think the free shipping should not have such a large dollar amount attached to it. Sheep farmers always need something and sometimes we forget to order everything at the same time costing us. I wish the shield had an easier clasp. It is impossible to open by hand.

Very fast delivery. Excellent products. But please stop dumping your shredding paper in the box as padding. I have to take your box outside to unpack so as not to get the shredded paper all over the house. Because I also have a business I receive 10-20 boxes from vendors every month and none of them uses this type of padding. Most use the air bags.

I am pleased with these heat lamps and there's no doubt that they are vastly superior to the old standard. My only complaint is that the cord could be better. Two of the lamps that I used only one season have developed a crack close to where the cord exits the handle. It seems to be a place where the cord tends to bend naturally, so perhaps they should think about using some type of coiled collar (like on a garden hose) to prevent this.

Only problem I have is the clips to open and close top for replacing the bulb is hard for me to open. I have to use big plyers. I started with one, got two more. And this year ordered 3 more! Like using them with the thermostat plug.

Excellent lamp, very sturdy, safe. Price is a bargin compared to heat mats other other means to heat kennel.
Thanks for offering this product.
Tremendous service is also a major plus.

Love these warmers! they don't get hot and the goats have knocked them down (not sure how they did it)and the straw did not get hot, nor did the bulb break. Much safer then those old metal ones!
The replacement cords are a snap too!
Just a GREAT product! Thanks!!

The best heat lamp that I have ever used. The bulb is enclosed so there is no way an animal could get burned.

I purchased 2 the first round then placed another order when I found them to be the best money can buy. Your chicks can't get burned, "NO" danger of a fire plus a 16' electrical cord....They don't get any better than this!

I just purchased a second lamp after we built larger housing for my Pygmy goats. They work wonderfully and safely. I use them with the Thermocube automatic plug in.That way I never have to worry about forgetting to turn them on and off.Would definitely recommend this product.

We love this unit and use them alot during the winter months. We use them with our baby lambs in the barn and have no worries about fires. Also good to have if you have little kids helping on the farm they are alot cooler to the touch.

I love that heat lamp, I have used it for several litters of pups and will use it for baby chicks and it would be the best for lambs. I tell all my friends about it!

For one thing the risk of fire and animal damage is greatly reduced. Secondly, i absolutely love the fact that i can buy every single part, piece by piece should anything break. I owe 3 and use them for sheep and poultry. I left my first in the chicken coop for the whole year and found that the ceramic insert got corroded (i.e. due to ammonia & heat (?)), but was able to replace all parts for very little $$... worth the money when in today's world fixing equipment seems a thing of the past.

Bought this heatlamp for kids 3 years ago...loved it! Housing doesn't get hot, it's light weight & worry free...unfortunately this spring the plastic housing disintegrated! The whole thing fell apart! Very disappointing, but at least no fire :-)
We at Premier want to know more about this unusual result (and we suspect the lamp's manufacturer will as well). Can we trade you a new one for the old one? -- Premier

We have 2, just bought another. We hate using heat lamps but when kidding in 20 degrees, they make a difference. These seem to be the lesser evils of heat lamps, never had them fall but definately take precautions because of fire potential. We make sure the goats can't mess with them. The extra initial cost is cheap prevention.

Product is worth the price. Did have some issues with the durabilty of the ceramic bulb inserts however, knowing I don't have to worry about a barn fire is well worth the replacement cost of the heat lamp.

I love these lamps! We purchased 2 sets for use on litters of puppies. Traditional heat lamps scare me. I worry about burns or possible fires. When I saw these heat lamps, I knew this is what I had to have! The cord is long, there is a protective "cage" around the bulb, and if bumped by a person or the mother dog, it is not hot to the touch. It kept 2 litters warm and comfortable in our garage during the long cold winter of 2009/2010. We plan to use them again this spring for our new chicks. Well worth the money!

Love these heat lamps. Sturdy, safe and easy to use. Yes, they cost more than others but are well worth it. I've heard too many horror stories about barn fires and the little extra cost is worth the peace of mind.

I own 6 of these heat lamps. General quality is fine and safety features are good. However, the ceramic bulb sockets have come loose on 3 of them. One totally fell out and cannot be re-attached. I caught the other 2 before they came apart and was able to tighten the screws up that hold everything together. DEFINITELY something to watch on these lamps.

I own several of these heat lamps and would never go back to the old style. They are durable, safe, and have been well worth every penny for lambing & kidding season, as well as raising chicks. No longer do I have to worry about livestock burning themselves or breaking a bulb, an all around exceptional product.
