HoriSmart A50 Battery Energizer
For fences that are exposed to the "public."
Features HoriSmart's unique CPN circuitry.
Though new to the USA, they were introduced in Europe 2 years ago.
What do they offer that others do not? An increased margin of safety for fence exposed to young children, valuable animals or humans with medical conditions such as heart pacemakers.
How? Horizont's CPN circuit/system maintains high voltages through a wide range of situations--but (and this is the key difference) keeps output energy for 60 seconds at levels that allow time for humans and animals to move away from the fence.
Why is this important? The concern with most energizers (whatever the brand or source) has always been that, to make units powerful enough (in output joules) to cope with heavy, green weed contact meant that they also produced more joules of output power than necessary during times when green grass was not contacting the fence (e.g., spring, winter and autumn).
HoriSmart's CPN circuits are the first in the world to address this problem.

A battery fence energizer that is especially useful in public places that is used for semi-permanent and permanent fence systems to keep in sheep, goats and poultry. Protects livestock from coyotes, fox, bear and raccoons. Used around gardens and orchards to keep out rabbits, deer and other wildlife.

- Will power approximately 3 miles of multi strand fence, 28 rolls of 164' sheep/goat net and 14 rolls of 164' PoultryNet. All distances are dependent on amount of grass/weed load on the fence.

- A 12v 100 ampere hour battery will last approximately 6* days. *Assumes being drawn down to 40% between recharges.

- Needs a 44 amp hr 12v deep cycle battery or larger.
- To recharge the 12v battery without a solar panel use a 12v battery charger with a 'Low' or 'Trickle' setting of 2 amp/hr or less.

- 2 outputs: the fence lead attached to the red knob will result in full power. Attaching the fence lead to the blue knob results in an output that is approximately 20% of the full charge.

| Installation |
- Connect the black clip from energizer to the ground terminal on 12v battery.
- Connect the red clip from energizer to the positive terminal on 12v battery.
- From the wiring harness, take the wire with red lead, connect the bare end to the fence terminal on the energizer, then clip the other end onto the fence.
- Take the wire with the black clip and connect the lead's bare wire to the ground terminal on the energizer and clip other end of lead to ground rod.
- Turn the energizer on.
- Test fence.

- Make sure the energizer is unplugged before working on the fence or the energizer.
- Use on size appropriate fences.

| Troubleshooting |
To determine if the fault is with the fence or the energizer...
- Test the energizer first
- Turn off energizer.
- Disconnect ground wire and the fence wire.
- Turn energizer back on.
- With fence tester, put the ground probe (or clamp) to the ground terminal on the energizer and the metal loop (or positive clamp) at the top of the tester to the fence/positive terminal. The reading you get tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables. If there is a very low voltage (under 4000v) or no voltage, then the energizer may have a problem. If the voltage is high (greater than 4000v) then the trouble lies with your fence. Most energizers put out between 5000v and 8000v when there is no load (i.e. no fence hooked up).
If the energizer is faulty and it's a battery unit you need to learn if the battery or the energizer is the problem...
- If it's a 12 volt energizer carry the energizer to a nearby vehicle and attach the input cords carefully to the vehicle's battery.
- If the energizer now works, then your energizer's battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
- If the energizer does not work, then you should call Premier re. repairs.
If the fence is at fault, then you must find the fault(s) and fix them. Here's how to start this process: If you have a Fault Finder (#133500) you can simply touch the fence with the Fault Finder at various points along the electric fence(s). The Fault Finder will tell you at each point which direction to go in to locate the problem. Move in that direction testing as you go and you will arrive at the problem. Note: The directional arrow of the Fault Finder is not accurate with net.
If you lack a Fault Finder…
- Walk or drive along the fence looking for any point in which the energized wires touch the soil, wood a steel post or a steel wire. On HT wire fences, check the wires at braces to see if they are touching a hot wire. On netting, look for a hot wire touching the metal stake at the bottom of the plastic posts. Also look for damaged insulators.
- If the fence can be separated into several parts (by switches or by disconnecting parts of it), you can locate the problem by beginning at the far end and then progressively turn off or disconnect the sections of fence. When the voltage on the remaining fence rises sharply, you've located the section(s) that's causing the problems.
- The alternative to (2.) is to begin at the fencer and progressively turn on sections of the fence. When the voltage suddenly drops you can assume that the problem is in the section most recently connected.

If an energizer fails within 2 years from the purchase, Premier will replace the module/unit at our cost (unless the reason for its failure is customer abuse or neglect). Your credit card will be charged for the replacement but you will receive full credit when the failed item is back at Premier. Your only cost is shipping the failed item to us. If the original energizer is over 2 years old, we will repair and/or replace it, but you pay for the repair cost and freight

How does it compare to our temporary nets (ElectoNet® and E'Stop™, etc?)
- Designed to be left in one place for months or years. For this it has stronger, heavier, larger PVC posts with longer, thicker, steel spikes, supporting the net better through wind, rain, ice and snow.
- It's taller--therefore more reliable.
- It's a very good conductor (low electrical resistance). This is critical as weed contact may become heavy.
- Supplied in many lengths--to enable users to buy the right length for each situation.
