HoriSmart N100 110v AC Plug-In Energizer

Wide-impedance unit, so recommended for areas with dry seasons and for poultry, deer and goat fences

Though new to the USA, they were introduced in Europe 2 years ago.

What do they offer that others do not? An increased margin of safety for fence exposed to young children, valuable animals or humans with medical conditions such as heart pacemakers.

How? Horizont's CPN circuit/system maintains high voltages through a wide range of situations--but (and this is the key difference) keeps output energy for 60 seconds at levels that allow time for humans and animals to move away from the fence.

Why is this important? The concern with most energizers (whatever the brand or source) has always been that, to make units powerful enough (in output joules) to cope with heavy, green weed contact meant that they also produced more joules of output power than necessary during times when green grass was not contacting the fence (e.g., spring, winter and autumn).

HoriSmart's CPN circuits are the first in the world to address this problem.

Common Uses

A very powerful 110v electric fence energizer used to keep in cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry and guard dogs. Effective at protecting against coyotes, stray dogs, bear and fox as well. It also works to keep out deer, raccoons and rabbits from garden/orchard areas.

Specs

  • 8 Max stored joules
  • 6 Max released joules
  • 3.3 joules output in moist soils
  • 1.5 joules output in dry soils
  • Will power approximately 3.5 miles of 5-7 strand fence, 30+ rolls of 164' sheep/goat net and 15-18 rolls of 164' PoultryNet. All distances are dependent on amount of grass/weed load on the fence.
  • Requires 18 feet of ground rod in the ground
  • Draws 12 watts per hour
  • 4' cord
  • 2 prong plug
  • Modular so can be repaired easily

Benefits

Safer for humans and animals than other energizers due to the CPN technology that reduces the amount of power on the fence for 60 seconds to allow the human or animal to get away from the energizer.

True wide-impedance output curve. Wide-impedance units preform better over a wider range of fence conditions and conductors than standard low-impedance units. Areas where wide-impedance units excel are: high resistance conductors (stainless steel polywire/hot tape/electrified netting); minimal ground rods; livestock or wildlife with dry skin or hair (poultry, deer, goats); and very dry soils.

Safe to use with all polywires, polyropes, tapes and electrified nets.

Installation

The HoriSmart N140 can be mounted either inside or outside of a building, but not where there is risk of fire. The energizer must be mounted vertically. Protect the energizer from direct rainfall.

  1. Connect insulated cable (stripped back 2-3" on ends) to the fence terminal on energizer, run the cable to the fence line and connect.
  2. Then run a second length of cable from the ground terminal (with ends stripped again) on the energizer to the ground rod.
  3. Secure to ground rod with a clamp.
  4. Plug into outlet and test fence.
Unit indicator light should flash and a tic-tac sound will be heard. If the indicator light doesn't flash, then the unit should be serviced.

Troubleshooting

To test the energizer:

  1. Turn off energizer.
  2. Disconnect ground wire and the fence wire.
  3. Plug energizer back in.
  4. With fence tester, put the ground probe to the ground terminal on the energizer and the metal loop at the top of the tester to the fence/positive terminal. The reading you get tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables. If there is a very low voltage (under 1500v) or no voltage, then the energizer may have a problem. If the voltage is high (greater than 3000v) then the trouble lies with your fence. Most energizers put out between 5000v and 8000v when there is no load (i.e. no fence hooked up).

Precautions

Make sure the energizer is unplugged before working on the fence or the energizer.

Warranty

Our unique 2-Year Warranty--
If an energizer fails within 2 years from the purchase, Premier will replace the module/unit at our cost (unless the reason for its failure is customer abuse or neglect). Your credit card will be charged for the replacement but you will receive full credit when the failed item is back at Premier. Your only cost is shipping the failed item to us. If the original energizer is over 2 years old, we will repair and/or replace it, but you pay for the repair cost and freight.
