Installation

Permanent tape is more work to install than rope fences because the post spacing is closer; the tape insulators take longer to attach--and there are more of them.

The process, however, is the same: install posts; attach insulators; stretch the tape; attach the energizer--and check that the voltage is over 1500.

SuperWide Tape fences consist of up to 5 ribbons of 1.5 in. wide tape strained between wood end and corner posts and supported by insulators on wood or steel line posts spaced 12 to 15 ft apart.

Most boundary tape fences are 4 ribbons. For stallions, 5 ribbons enables a taller fence.

Precautions

NOTE: All SuperWide tape should be twisted.

Why the change? Because twisting is the only sure way to prevent tape from whipping in the wind.

Why is wind whip a concern? It causes very rapid tape wear at the insulator. In one instance the tape lasted only 2 years instead of 10. Wind whip also stresses horses that are near it.

How many twists? Three twists between posts seems to be enough.

How does twisting correct it? It balances the forces of the wind--equal forces above and beneath. Try it. What if I don't like how twisted tape looks? Expect to replace the tape frequently--at your cost. Why don't other suppliers recommend this? We're specialists. Most others aren't. We use our own products. And we're honest about products. When a design or product has limitations, we recognize it and change.
