Was just getting ready to order more for lambing this spring and needed to figure out which numbers I haven't used. That made me realize that I have ewes that were born in 2006 in the 200's series of numbers that are still here and still wearing their metal tags. A handy backup in case they loose their regular tag. And obviously good retention. I am going to reuse the 100's series to avoid going over into the 1000 series, but I will be using the 900 to 1000 range as well in 2013.

We have used small brass tags for many years as a tool to help us decide which lambs to keep and to help figure out who a ewe is when she loses her large tag. I have not found a better way to handle this. We have between 150-180 ewes.

We are going to try these in our ewes, we seem to loosing to many tags, hoping these will not get caught, so that we have a second tag of identification.
