Wild Bird Feeders

(photo at right) Bird feeders in side-by-side tests. Feeders are raised and lowered by a single hand winch. It's squirrel-proof.

We confess. For 30 years we've "wasted" considerable $$ feeding songbirds. Our rural location along a creek with plenty of brush and trees brings birds--100 at a time during winter storms is not uncommon.

Finches, woodpeckers, cardinals, titmouses, juncos and jays in winter. Grosbeaks, finches, orioles, buntings and wrens in summer.

Why quality feeders are best--

Bird feed is expensive. Over 3 years, the seed that passes through a feeder will far exceed the feeder cost. So feeders that keep seed spoilage and waste to the minimum rapidly pay for themselves.

The best feeders--

  • Attractive: Droll Yankees.
  • All-round: Aspects Big Tube with a tray and dome.
  • Finch feeder: Droll Yankees.
  • Liked by birds: platform feeders.
  • Dome and tray: Aspects.

New feature--easier to clean

Feeders that have removable bases to enable easier cleaning. Allows you to dump out any spoiled feed. Reduces risk of mold toxins that can be deadly to birds. All tube feeders we offer include this feature (though both manufacturers achieve it differently).
