Refill without removing the lid!
Customers love our Heated Poultry Waterer, but they don’t love fiddling with the lid when it’s really cold. (We don’t either!)So we’ve added a hinged quick-fill cap. It’s just the right size for a garden hose or watering can. With a glance you can also check the water level. Quick-fill lid fits all Heated Poultry Waterers sold since 2019.
For folks that don’t need to worry about frozen water, look to the 3-Season Poultry Waterer. It’s a reliable top-fill waterer with many of the best-in-class features found in our heated version.

How to Use
The detachable cord can be stowed separately during warmer months.
The electrical plug cap (used during summer months) fits over a nub on the bottom of the bucket.
Nipples should be placed just above the birds’ heads. The birds should stretch up slightly to drink.
A few tricks for dealing with stubborn birds:
- Remove all other sources of water. Place the new nipple waterer in the old waterer’s location.
- Bring a bird’s beak directly to the nipple waterer and flick the nipple. You may have to activate the nipple with the bird’s beak to demonstrate the new water source. (See video above.)
- Place a sunflower seed in the drip trough. When the bird pecks at the seed, it will discover the new water source.
- Use a red laser pointer to direct chickens to the nipple. Similar to house cats, our chickens will chase and follow the red light. (This was inadvertently discovered by our photo dept and is now our go-to method for getting camera-shy birds to cooperate.)
You don’t have to train every bird in the flock. Just a few will do. Once the first chickens begin drinking, others will follow.
Precautions
Warning: Risk of electrical shock—Connect only to a branch circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the circuit is protected by a GFCI.
Troubleshooting
Not all of the water from the drinker will end up in the bird. Chickens are messy drinkers. Bored chickens may also peck at the nipple even when not seeking water. Over time, this may result in moisture build-up under the nipple. In freezing coops, icicles may form. As long as the water at the nipple remains unfrozen, birds will have a source of water.
Replacement cords must be matched to the type of receptacle found on the base of the bucket. They are NOT interchangeable.
When connecting the detachable cord to the base, make sure the alignment notch slides easily into the groove on the bucket’s receptacle. (See photo below.) Unfortunately, it’s easier than we’d like to misalign the prongs. The result is a non-functioning unit until it’s aligned correctly.

Absolutely love this heated bird waterer! We were hit with never before seen temperatures of -30°F wind chill. This waterer arrived just in time. I put it in the chicken coop and plugged it in — easy peasy — and it's been fantastic! It's worked no matter how cold the weather got. My White Crested Black Polish hens learned fairly quickly how to use it. I'm very happy with it.

Seems sturdy but has a design flaw — the lid freezes shut, making it impossible to refill. I have several heated nipple waterers from another manufacturer, and when those get ice along the lid, they loosen with a gentle tap from my palm. Not so with Premier's waterer, I've yet to successfully muscle it open. Instead, I've had to lug it back to a heated location to thaw. I've contacted Premier 1 about this problem, and they recommended smearing vaseline on the lid. This definitely helps the issue, but it seems silly that this is an issue in the first place. This style of lid doesn't offer secondary benefit, such as being water tight — it leaks when tipped over just as any other waterer.
It does keep water from freezing in sub zero temperatures, but so does the other brand of heated nipple waterer (in fact, there tends to be less ice build up on the inside of the other brand). The other brand is less expensive and widely available, and the translucent sides make it easy to see at a glance if it needs refilling. Premier's product does seem well built and I appreciate the ability to detach the power cord, but I don't see any significant advantage over the other brand. I've used the other waterer for 2 years without problem, but it is possible that Premier's product will outlast them. However, I find the design of Premier's lid so frustrating that I really can't recommend it.

This is by far the best heated waterer I have ever had. The red lid is completely enclosed so the hollow dome acts as an insulator. The blue "pale" is thick and the cord is very robust. We have had two weeks with highs in the single digits or low teens and the lows at zero or below and this thing hasn't had so much as condensation crystalizing on the inside; no ice what so ever. Two thumbs up!

The dispenser is very sturdy and easy to use. The removable plug is A++ seeing that it will work for all seasons. The chickens took to it very well making us wish the product was offered in a larger version. One con would be the cost + shipping making us drop the rating star.

I am so impressed. I live in Minnesota and winters can be brutal. It got down to -22°F this year and this bucket worked like a champ. No freezing whatsoever.
I'd had two waterers before this one and they both failed miserably. One was a heated nipple waterer from a different company. It got to 20 degrees and that thing froze up. So disappointing. The other was an open waterer and ice formed when it got to 0 degrees. The other issue is the girls would get water all over their wattles when they drank. That water would freeze on the wattles and cause the beginnings of frostbite. So I finally broke down and figured I'd give it one more go and try this one. Amazing difference! I couldn't be happier. I keep the water out in the run. I have plastic over all sides to block the wind, but left small spaces at the top for ventilation. I absolutely love this waterer and am so happy I made this purchase.
What's more, the company is lovely. The first bucket I ordered came with a cord that had wires exposed and appeared defective. I contacted the company and they sent me out another immediately and I got it within a couple days. Best heated water bucket ever!
