Use a Dial-A-Temp to allow control of Premier's Heating Plates output between 105°F to 125°F or a Heating Plate Temperature Controller which allows control of Premier's Heating Plates output between 20% - 100% of full output.
Heating plate advantages over a heat lamp:
- Uses much less electricity. Only 22 watts (66 for the larger plate) vs 175 or 250 watts for a heat lamp.
- Less risk of fire because of the much lower surface temperature (125°).
- A hen keeps chicks warm beneath a heat source. So does a heat plate.
The rugged plate cover (optional) prevents older chicks from perching on top and fouling the unit with droppings. However, the plate can be hand-washed to remove dust and debris.
How to Use
Height adjustment is important. As the chicks grow, use the adjustable legs to increase the height of the plate above the bedding and chicks.

Very useful for when chicks become pullets, saves A LOT of cleaning time!

This brooder is awesome! I have been raising chicks almost every year for the last 10 years. I wish I had this heater from the start. Chicks are quiet and content. The ones that are resting aren't run over by the ones eating and drinking like when I used a heat lamp only. I have a batch of 24 this time and I bought the 50 chick sized heater plate. There is plenty of room and some to spare as the chicks grow. I also purchased the plastic dome cover and am glad I did. It should keep this brooder clean on top for next year. Great product!!

Works like a charm. After I set it up I turned off the red heat lamp. For a minute or so they ran around peeping then found their way under the plate and all was quiet. Easy adjustable legs.

Absolutely the BEST. Not only does this keep the chicks toasty warm, the legs are easy to adjust, and it is easy to clean. I put press-and-seal on top to make clean up easier. The chicks love climbing up on top too, and it gives them a ton more floor space in the brooder. I have the Brinsea version, and prefer this Premier 1 much more. A fantastic product.

Run 3 brooders and needed a safer way to keep our chicks warm while cutting electrical needs. I use this for our older chicks who have started feathering out and they really do enjoy it. Have noticed a decrease in our energy bill and won't belong before this heating plate (with cover pays for its self thru electric bill savings).
Cover keeps the chicks from jumping up and pooping all over it. Works great and worth the money I spent on it.
