HogNet® BLUE 3/24/23 Electric Netting
New! A popular net fence in Europe for protecting valuable food plots, sweet corn patches, and gardens from feral hogs.
Why HogNet® BLUE?
4-legged animals generally have poor color vision, but see shades of blue clearly. Because blue is an unusual color when seen on the ground, hogs are curious and check the fence with their sensitive snouts. The result is a memorable electric shock which encourages them to find a less risky “restaurant”.- Bright blue conductors with high-visibility tape (optional)
- Lowest strand is 9" above the ground to prevent hogs from rooting soil onto the fence; high ground clearance is also better for mowing and reducing weed load
- Fiberglass posts for increased stiffness (vs. PVC)
Each roll is a complete fence with the posts already built into the mesh/fence. One roll (164 ft) weighs only 5 lbs. You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.
Can be used as a budget-friendly alternative to Pig QuikFence® 6/30/12 for containing large domestic pigs.
Benefits
However, electrified fences do work and work well. Why? Hogs use their nose/snout to investigate new situations. The bare nose ensures that contact with an energized strand will send a hog-stopping pulse (if the energizer is large enough) through the hog.
Optional signaling tape draws attention of animals (and humans) by fluttering in the wind. We recommend first removing the tape before transporting or storing the net. As a result, HogNet® BLUE is better suited to semi-permanent applications vs. situations where the fence is moved often.
HogNet® BLUE should be effective with feeders or larger hogs, but piglets and weanlings may sneak under the fence.

Signal Tape: The top of each post is fitted with a wide clip for holding a signal tape/ribbon. Insert the tape into the clip and tie-off at each end of the net with a few overhand knots. Alternatively, use a staple gun to secure the tape.
Precautions
Training domestic pigs to electric fence…
When using HogNet® BLUE Electric Netting with domestic livestock, we recommend training them first. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn off the power and get them loose.- Why? Because pigs new to electric fence may decide to respond like pigs—and charge forward through the fence instead of backing away.
- How? Set up an electric fence alongside (1 to 2 ft away) a secure permanent fence that the pigs can't get through. Make sure the fence is electrified—at least 3000V at the end of fence. Introduce the pigs to the fence. Monitor the pigs for a few hours.
Note: Failing to train domestic pigs to electric fences can be expensive—damage to the fence plus the damage the escaped pigs might create.
Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.
Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.
Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed.
Troubleshooting
Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.
Test the energizer first!
- Turn off the energizer.
- Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
- Turn the energizer back on.
- Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a digital voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
- If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
If the energizer is at fault:
- Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
- Check the grounding system
If the fence is at fault:
- Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
- Broken or damaged insulators

Very pleased. Using to keep hogs in a forest area. We use the WHITE Premier 1 Pig QuikFence for younger/smaller pigs then transferred them to this BLUE fencing into the forest area seamlessly. Because the lowest wire is staged higher on the pole, there is less chance for the pigs to push dirt up onto it. However, this wire has caused mild heart attacks as the blue isn’t as visible from a distance and it appears the pigs have gone through the fencing into the wild. Obviously a visual error on our part but gets the morning going without the help of coffee. ;-)
