Use PermaNet for sites that have installation problems for permanent wire fences (hills, rocks, curves, trees, no machine access). It keeps sheep and goats in and predators out. Can stop a wide range of animals.

How does it compare to our temporary nets (ElectroNet® and E'Stop™, etc?)

  • Designed to be left in one place for months or years. For this it has stronger, heavier, larger PVC posts with longer, thicker, steel spikes, supporting the net better through wind, rain, ice and snow.
  • It's taller, 48"--therefore more reliable.
  • It's a very good conductor (low electrical resistance). This is critical as weed contact may become heavy.
  • Supplied in many lengths--to enable users to buy the right length for each situation.

* Pos/Neg (PN) fences are recommended where the soil is very dry and/or the animals do not ground well. Two clips are used at each end. One is hooked to the energizer, the second should be connected to a ground rod.

Installation
The same “unroll and then unfold” process applies to all electrified nets. Minimal strength or skill needed (and no tools). Extra supports such as FiberTuff™ step-in posts are useful at corners, curves and ends. You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.

Tip: When using Pos/Neg fencing, a PowerLink (see Accessories above) is recommended to attach the negative lead to the ground rod.

We suggest installing PermaNet with two people. Why? Because of its extra weight and longer posts. It can be handled, installed and removed by one person, but having another person on each end of the posts doubles the productivity and makes it easier for both.

Pushing or stepping posts into the soil is still a one-person task. And so is pulling the posts out of the soil. But these tasks take more effort because the spikes are both larger and longer. (After all, it doesn’t work to have a strong, well-supported post without large and long spikes.)

Note: Weeds must be controlled for PermaNet to remain effective. Either move and mow as needed during the growing season, or spray herbicide (see photos above) along the bottom strand of the net. If you can’t do this, PermaNet may not be the right net for you.

Precautions
Electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. A common mistake is not electrifying it. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.

Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.

Dry or frozen ground may cause post spikes to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed. We recommend using drivable or single spike posts in hard soils. Double spike posts provide more stability when the ground is soft.

Troubleshooting
If the voltage drops below 3000V on the net, you need to turn off the energizer and unhook the net from the energizer. Test the energizer by itself. If the voltage is 5000V or higher on the energizer, the problem is in the net. The most common problem is that the lowest “hot” strand has been caught around one of the metal spikes on the posts and is shorting it out. The net must be at least 2" away from anything metal (metal posts, existing fences, spikes on support posts).

Warranty
With proper care, netting should last 5-7 years. Replacements will be prorated.

When we install a net that needs to stay up for a year (in some cases even longer) we use PermaNet. We developed it as a semi-permanent fence to use on our East Farm. The fences were non-existent but we needed the pasture immediately. We put together PermaNet and were so satisfied we decided to offer it. It is heavier and bulkier than ElectroNet and ElectroStop, but it is designed to be installed and left… Read More » alone. Some of us like that you don’t have to bend over as far to install or remove a post. The downside is the vegetation growth along the net, since it stays unmoved for so long. We spray an herbicide along the net to prevent growth. Lack of growth means less vegetation to drain the voltage from the net.

I like the smaller squares. I am able to put up by myself. I like the flat heads rather than the round. I have used the temporary electronet for a number of years and will continue with Premier. Just waiting for the gates to be available and order a few more fences. I never have to worry about coyotes and foxes getting my tiny lambs. I also use the netting for chickens. Not too excited about the double spikes as they tend to bend unevenly and will not consider buying the double spike for the sheep.

Super fast and efficient! We have a mini donkey and mini horse that can't go out with the larger herd due to bullying. We've been using other temporary fences (electric rope from another company) with these two mini's for 2 years now, with CONSTANT escape issues. This netting was so easy and quick to set up. It took me less than 30 minutes from unwrapping the package to turning out the mini's. A typical set up with the other temporary fencing? 3-4 hours, if not longer due to stringing up the wire, adjusting posts, adjusting height and correcting sagging, connection issues and cutting down anything and everything that could possibly ground the wire. A huge pain in the rear. The area we used had waste high grass that I knocked down with my Prius and set the fence right on it with no grounding issues. This is a MUST BUY product for containing livestock who are crafty and determined to escape. Thank you Premier1, we are looking forward to future purchases as we work to replace all of our fencing.

We love this fence! Our farm has limited permanent pastures and we have been using Premier1 PermaNet for the past 3 years rotating our sheep and goats around the back fields. I find the 100' sections to be easy to handle by myself and move around. We use the single spike for ease of installation here in Ohio when the ground is frozen or dry you can pound them in. We recently purchased more sheep and they came with a competitors electric netting which we got rid of that asap! Premier is much higher quality everything from the netting to the posts and the spacing. We've had numerous people stop by inquiring about our fence. Great customer service and fast shipping can't sing their praises enough. Love this company and their products!

Works great but really need to be diligent about keeping weeds and grass under and close to the netting controlled. No problem at all setting up. It would be nice to have a longer spike on the post and also more distance between the top of the spike and bottom of the net so it would be easier to control the grass and weeds under the netting if one used a trimmer rather than spraying.
