Use portable PermaNet® fence on sites where permanent wire fence is hard to install—hills, rocks, curves, around trees, or where machines can’t access. Its 48" height (installed) keeps sheep and goats contained while excluding a wide range of ground-based predators.

* Pos/Neg (PN) fences are recommended where the soil is very dry and/or the animals do not ground well. Two clips are used at each end. One is hooked to the energizer, the second should be connected to a ground rod.
Installation
Tip: When using Pos/Neg fencing, a PowerLink (see Accessories) is recommended to attach the negative lead to the ground rod.

Common Questions
- Will PermaNet® 10/48/6 contain poultry?
- No. Because of the 6" wide spacings, this PermaNet® will NOT contain chickens. For chickens, we recommend 42" or 48" tall electric netting with 3" wide spacings.
- How does PermaNet® compare to Premier’s other nets for sheep and goats?
- At 48" tall, it’s taller than ElectroNet® and ElectroStop®, which makes it more reliable at containing and excluding animals. PermaNet® is designed to be left in one place for months or years, so it pairs PrimaLite™ line posts with a step-in foot wedge for stable insertion. The result is better support through wind, rain, ice and snow, with less sag over time.
Precautions
Netting must be moved when tall grass covers the lower “hot” strands. The alternative? Apply a strip of herbicide to kill vegetation.
Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous-output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only a low- or wide-impedance intermittent-pulse energizer. All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for electric netting.
Dry conditions and wintertime use may reduce the effectiveness of electric fencing. Ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and damage it.
Dry or frozen ground may cause posts to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed.
Troubleshooting
If possible, separate the fence into sections. Then progressively reconnect, checking voltage as you go. When the voltage drops, you’ve identified the section with the problem. Listen for snapping sounds. This occurs when a conductor is close to a grounded wire, metal objects, fallen branches, or other green vegetation causing a “short”. Shorts cause fence voltage to collapse and allow animals to touch the fence without feeling pain.

The step-in foot wedge requires only a single boot press—no dead blow hammer or rubber mallet, and no bending down to push in a spike.
The one downside hasn’t changed with the new posts: vegetation along the net still needs attention, since it stays unmoved for so long. We spray an herbicide strip beneath it to keep grass and weeds from growing into the strands. Less vegetation contact means less voltage drained out of the fence.
Bottom line: same PermaNet durability, less effort to put up and take down. We’re moving our other semi-permanent paddocks over to the new posts as rolls come up for replacement.

Last evening in SE Ohio we received heavy rains that caused a nearby creek to escape its banks. This Spring, our cattle have been kept behind temporary PermaNet while our permanent fence was undergoing repair. Although the PermaNet was overwhelmed by debris from the flood, it straightened right back up after clearing the debris. I re-energized the fence and it still works perfectly.

I want to thank you all so much for such a great quality product. I got more than what I paid for when I bought the PermaNet 10/48/6 and have had no issues. Came home today to find this: Top had fallen out the tree and “U” shaped the post. I got the top off and straightened the post and put the fence back up all in about 3 minutes. Didn’t lose one goat and we are back to business as normal. Thanks for a great product!

These “new” PermaNet fences are great so far! The weight savings is crazy, they’re SO light! I’m not typically a fan of the single spike, but with the step-in wedge, install is effortless. They wrap up so much smaller on the Twist Butler than any of the other fences we have. We have 4 rolls to go with our countless other rolls and I like this one the best by far. Even with the longer spacing between posts, sag doesn’t currently seem to be an issue.

I bought my first four rolls of 100 ft PermaNet fence in 2012. I finally retired those original four this year, in 2026. I’ve moved them back and forth and pounded them into rocky soil, where they battled heavy winds, weathered severe snowstorms, been ravaged by several determined billy goats (who learned not to mess with them), and were even flattened by a few sheds that took flight over the years. I was always able to bend them upright, patch the holes, and carry on.
After 14 years of constant year-round use, they are no longer worth patching, and the spikes are almost rusted through, but I’d say that’s a really good run. I did not expect them to last this long or hold up so well to some of the abuse they’ve suffered over the years. Great product!

The PermaNet® 10/48/6 single spike was much easier to install in my rocky soil than the step-in posts I bought previously. Step-in fences are great if it’s recently rained or if you have soft soil. But if you have caliche, clay, and/or rocks save yourself the headache (and hours bending spikes back into shape) and go with single spike.
