Tension knob 4000 shear head
Author: Penny

Went to use my 4000 shears yesterday and the tension knob will not stay tight enough. The blades flew right off at one point and I quit, These shears were loaned out for a few sheep over the winter. The last time I used them before that after shearing about 90 animals over a 3 month they were fine. Any idea what is wrong? I have ordered a new shearing head (newer version but these shears are about 2 years old and have done about 100 sheep max), but had planned to continue using the existing one until the new one arrives. Now I'm dead in the water until the new head arrives via slow mail to Canada.....
Thanks
Penny

Penny,
You would be best calling in and talking to Frank, our repair guy. I spoke to him and he said that there is a screwed bushing in the head that is probably working loose. He said that you can lock-tight it back in, but didn't get into the specifics of how to do it. Our number is 1-800-282-6631 and the best hours are between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Central time.

Thanks Mandy
I'll call tomorrow. I'll post back and let you know how I make out with the shears.

I had the same problem. I have sent the head to Premier for repair. I am happy with the shears after 25 or 30 years with several Shearmasters (tm). The Shearmasters seem more rugged, but make more noise and heat up after just a couple of sheep. The Premier shears don't heat up at all with the number of sheep that I shear at one time. The tension problem is a pain, though. I tried to line with it but it just kept getting worse. wrote:

Thanks Todd for the info. I did call and talked to Frank as Mandy suggested. Not only did he tell my how to fix the problem (which I won't do but will send them in to him instead) he gave me a lot of advice about some older Premier equipment I have and was extremely helpful. Only trouble is I haven't managed to get them packed up and shipped........geez why can't you do that for us too you guys!! Premier continues to be ly #1 choice even though shipping costs to Canada kill me.
