boer goat show advice

I've been raising boer goats for a few years and would really like to start showing some of the younger ones. I don't know a thing about what the proper proceedure is on training the goat correctly. I have numerous "pet" goats, but I'm finding out that just because they're a pet doesn't mean they will lead or stand like they should. Also, the feed, hoof trimming, vitamins, etc. I have read that they should just be on the show goat feed with little hay except alfafa. Is this the best and how much grain should a 3 month old billy be fed?

The "look" that is desirable for showing varies with the areas and types of shows. I recommend you get involved with your local group (4H, county fair, etc.). Some may show on lead while others will want the animal shown with you just holding onto its head.

Feed types and amounts are intricate enough that there is no way for me to comment on that. You need to know the values of each of your feeds and that will tell you about vitamins etc. Feed is likely to be based on weight not age. You will probably find a lot of information regarding this by doing a google search www.google.com on goat nutrition.

Good luck!
