Looking for info.

I am looking for information on sudden death in sheep, and haven't had much luck. Do you know where I could find out what causes this problem, and what age animals it would normally affect? Also, if it is posable that animals can be genetically predisposed to it?

A sheep has the ability to look healthy until it is too late. Therefore, sudden death
can be caused by many different things. It is impossible to say what a sheep died from without being there and having more information.

Thank you, That was what I needed to know. I was told it was a disease that affected lambs.
I just lost three of the four lambs I had born here this spring. After searching, and testing for a cause, we finally found that they had died from eating nightshade.

I also had a problem with my ewes eating nightshade last year. I always believed sheep had to be very hungry to eat different types of poisoness weeds, but my sheep are always fed very well. This was the first time in 15 years of raising sheep that this has ever happened, so I never realized it until it was to late. Now I keep the pasture mowed, so the nightshade does'nt have a chance to mature and berry. I have since learned that that's when it's most deadly.
