I am debating on crossbreeding. I have purebred suffolks right now. I was wondering if you could give me some ideas. I would like to improve on mothering ability, lambing ease, disposition and new born spunk. I curently have about a 180% lambing crop. There are so many breeds out there to choose form I just keep getting confused. Are there any big concerns I should be aware of. Can you breed a larger framed ram to a smaller framed ewe. What about breeding to a prolific breed like Finn? Do you think they (my suffolks) could carry multiples to term? I have a few sets of triplets every year. If you have any guidlines to use I would really appreciate it.

Amy

Amy,

A Dorset would probably be a good cross with what you are wanting. Hampshires do not usually lamb easily, but they do match up with the rest what you are looking for.

Amy,

The Finns are probably not what you are looking for. The Dorsets would be a good choice. Hampshires do not lamb easily, but they do fit the other things that you are looking for.
