Training Goats to respect electric wire
Author: Ron Barbee

I plan to purchase about 15 Boar goats in the next few months to control weeds and brush in an old pasture. I had heard that I should train the goats to respect the electric wire before they are turned loose within the paddock. I was intending on using a three wire fence instead of netting since my terrain is hilling and full of briars, etc.
What is the best way to train a heard of goats?
Thanks

Set up a three wire electric fence next to where you are feeding them.
They will find it and learn what it is in just a few days.
Make sure that it is on at all times.

So, what I could do is to construct an enclosed circular corral made with wire mesh, install a 3-wire electric wire down the center of the corral, place the goats on one side of the electric wire fence and some extra hay (feed) on the other side of wire, and have them attempt to cross over to the hay, correct?

Put the hay on the same side as the goats . Let them find the fence on their own.
If you put the feed on the other side they will jump the fence and not get a shock.
