electric fencing and snow

What is the best way to maintain the grounding on your electric fence during the snowy winter months, given that snow will insulate the animals (pigs in my case) from getting shocked by the fence?

Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,
You can always use an extra ground rod. The best way is probably to have an extra strand on the fence that is grounded. That way we are not relying on the animal to ground through the ground itself, but through the negative/grounded wire.

If the ground is bare- no snow/ice then you should be ok without any modifications.
Thank you,

Can you tell me how to run the extra strand of fence that works as a ground?
What does it connect to?

The extra strand just connects to another ground rod - or to multiple T posts in the fence line. It is best to not hook it to the same ground rod as the energizer if it can be helped.
