Energizer

I just plugged my fence energizer, HotShock 600, in for the first time and was disappointed to read only 4000V at the fence. I started troubleshooting by testing the voltage at the energizer's terminals and it reads 4000V there as well. Is there something wrong with the energizer? It is supposed to output 10,000V with zero resistance. Am I testing it incorrectly?

This is my first experience with electric fence.

Chris,
4000v on the fence is good. I would not worry about that. Each energizer is unique so they don't put out exactly the same. When you are testing just the energizer, is the fence still hooked up? If the fence is still hooked up, then the voltage will probably read the same.Chris Gallo wrote:
