WIll a high tensile fence that is buried in a snow drift carry a charge?

Bob,
Typically snow drifts will short out an electric fence. If the snow is the 'dry' powdery kind, it may not affect the electric current as much. One thing to watch out for is that snow acts as an insulator between the animals and the ground so even if the charge is going through the fence, the animals may not be grounded enough to receive a shock.

Having the same problem, snow insulating between hoof and ground. Whats a good cure? Currently have two strands of H. T. with 32" H.T woven wire containing beef cattle

I would run a strand of low tension (Intellitwine, Intellirope 4.5) in between your two HT hot strands and hook it to your ground rod. Or you can take of the HT strands, unhook it from the positive and then hook it to a ground rod. By creating a 'ground' on this other wire, you ensure that the animals are grounded when they're touching the ground wire and it doesn't matter if they are grounded through their hooves. They will have to touch a hot wire and a ground wire to complete the circuit and receive a shock.
