Corynebacterium Pseudotuberculosis Bacterin

Is Corynebacterium Pseudotuberculosis Bacterin species specific?

I have a horse who has been diagnosed with Pigeon Fever(Corynebacterium Pseudotuberculosis Bacterin). The veterinarian thought the horse had contracted the disease from the sheep, with biting flies being the mode of transmission.

I tested the sheep, they were all negative for CL. I do have one yearling lamb that has a bump on his shoulder, not open or draining, but I was suspious of it being CL. Could he test negative in a Serum test and still be harboring the disease??

This has been quite a mystery since Pigeon Fever is extremely rare in horses in this part of Texas. Texas A & M University said they had only seen about 5 cases in the last 35 years.

Any expertise you could share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx,

Lesia

I'm sorry, this falls under that medical/veterinary rule whereby we can't offer medical advise since we don't have a vet on staff. Your vet may want to test the abcess on your lamb's shoulder; he/she should also be able to find out if this medication will work on your equines....
