Sheep eating wool

We have approximately a hundred or so sheep, primarily shetland and some other cross-breeds. However, we've been having a problem for some time now with ewes pulling wool off of other ewes. I'm new at this while my partner has been doing this for years, but other than putting blankets on them we can't figure our how to solve this problem.

Is this a behavioral thing, or is there a mineral deficiency...or something else? It seems like I recently saw an article on your website talking about this problem and I thought it mentioned a mineral deficiency... but I can't find the article again. I looked through your discussion pages and couldn't find anything on this problem there either.

Anyway you could find that article again for us... or could you point us in the right direction? Any suggestions would be helpful! - Thanks!

It can be a mineral problem. I have also seen this happen when the ewes where not getting enough fiber in their diet. Are they chewing on the barn and feeders also?
