Based in southeast Iowa, Premier provides innovative farm products to sheep and goat producers (both large and small), as well as backyard and hobby farmers across the United States and Canada.

Not many firms can boast that their workforce includes 800 ewes, 40 chickens, 6 livestock guardian dogs, 2 horses, a gaggle of geese, and more goats than we’d care to admit. But, we can!

It matters because we field test our products to determine their strengths (and weaknesses) before we offer them to you. Traditional farmstores don’t do this.

Farm Manager

Premier Experimental Farms is seeking a farm manager to work along side our livestock manager (Fiona) in managing 900 acres of pastures, fences, CRP, woodland, crops (hay/silage) and buildings. Our farm consists of 800 ewes, meat goats and pastured chickens. It also field-tests products for Premier 1 Supplies (same owners), and assists with photo opportunities of products in use. The opportunity exists to assist Premier with developing new products. The ideal candidate will permanently relocate to Washington County, Iowa.

Premier Experimental Farms is equipped with modern farm machines and 50,000 sq. ft. of barn space.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Management aptitude with the ability to manage two full-time farm staff
  • Ability to operate farm machinery: Balers, mowers, loaders, truck, etc.
  • Sheep and goat experience
  • Basic mechanic skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability to work well with others

Warehouse Shipper

Premier has immediate openings in our shipping department. A warehouse worker should be alert, ambitious, hard-working, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and fulfilling sales orders, ensuring that merchandise is safely and securely packed and labeled for shipping
  • Collecting and safely transporting materials within the warehouse
  • Identifying any missing, lost or damaged materials and notifying the supervisor

Education/experience requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to work on feet and carry loads up to 50 pounds. (This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching—often all day.)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills—ability to work in a team environment
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry

Hours and compensation:

  • Hours are full-time, typically 8am to 4:30pm Monday–Friday. Will require working one Saturday morning 8am–12pm per month during the Spring and Summer. Warehouse workers often need to work overtime.
  • $21/hr starting wage. (Hourly rate negotiable upon qualifications and experience.)
