We have about 30 weaned lambs we are feeding. We feed a "Barn Mix" that has 10% protein, because it is cheaper and we are trying to get them fat. But don't I need to had a little more protein for growth? I have tryed to add about 1/4 to 1/2 cup per 5gal bucket of Soybean meal to up the protein but I think it is too hard on them because they started getting the runs so we stopped. Is there a gentler, cost effective, way to add some protein or is the 10% they are getting from the barn mix enough. when we are about 60 days from the first show we change to the more expensive show lamb feed but don't they need more protein eairlier? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
