udder problems

I have a ewe with a swollen, purple udder. Her teats are dry, crusted, and cracked. She has not changed her feed intake or activity. I have used udder balm on her and continue to monitor her closely. She lamebed about 4 weeks ago and the lambs have been doing fine up until the change in her teats. We have had ewes with mastitis, but they all went off feed, became depressed, got stiff in the rear, etc. She isn't like they were at all. Any ideas of what her problem could be? Another question is if a ewe with mastitis is going to be culled, does anyone use a tomorrow tube to dry them up?

This is a medical issue that we at Premier are not legally allowed to address. I highly recommend you discuss this with your veterinarian. If you don't have a veterinarian to work with, please call Pipestone, they have vets on staff and therefore can answer medical questions and give veterinary advice. Their phone number is 800-658-2523.

Good luck with your ewe.

Janet
