Lumpy lambs!

Got a funny question. I have several lambs (3-6 hd) approx 3-4 weeks old that have lumps on their rib cage area. I did stick on with a needle and got greenish pus out of it. I have no history of CL on the farm.
I was wandering if CL could just "appear"? My older lambs 4-7 weeks old have no lumps.
Starting feeding hay (term used loosely!!) that has alot of water hemp, and fox tail in it, and they have lots of prickly seed heads. The ewes don't like to eat it, so most of it gets laid on. Could this be poking the little ones and causing infections??
Any help would be appreciated!

The lambs are not old enough to show sings of CL. I would take the lamb to a vet and he will take a sample and have it tested.
The hay would not cause this condition.

I found this link on google. It could be rickets. Ask your vet! Never heard of this in sheep but it specifically mentions the lumps along the ribcage. Vitamin D deficiency.

Thanks, Deb. I did look it up. Not sure if it is that or not, but Vit D is cheap, so what the heck! My vet had no clue, and agreed giving a shot of D won't hurt! Thanks for your time, I think all of us "sheep people" need to stick together!!

The lumpy lamb saga continues!! Have several more, BUT the first ones seem to be fine. Gave them vit D, and Pen G. They eat great, run and play, but are just lumpy. My vet just shook their head and said "maybe it is the hay."
Whatever it is or was, death doesn't seem to be coming!
Thanks for everyones ideas and concern!!
