Hello...
We are in need of some serious electric fenicng. We raise Herefords and two of our pastures surround our daughter's house. Although raised on the farm, she hates barbed wire...so, for the past five years we have been dealing with three strands of electric fence tape...the type commonly used for horses. We use the standard type of solar box to supply the electricity. One pasture has two boxes, each covering about 1000' feet of fencing, 3-strands....the other two sides, away fromt he house are barbed. The smaller pasture in about 700' of electric, 3-strands, with one box...the rest is barbed wire.
Even when the fencing is registerd 4000 on the tester, the cattle walk right through the fence. Around 5 mos. of age, the calves completely ignore the fencing. Generally, this happens in Sept./Oct. when the grass is less lush, just prior to moving to winter quarters and the advent of serious hay feeding.
Between now and spring turn out, my husband and I want to upgrade the fence to contain the cattle more effectively. My questions is, which of your products will work best considering our daughter's desire for no metal fencing? Is our issue not the fencing itself but the solar battery we are using?
Any information you could provide so we can make an educated purchase and have this fence installed for May 1st of next year would be greatly appreciated.
