tip shearing baby alpacas

Hello, I purchased a premiere 3000. What comb and cutter would you recommend for tipping baby alpacas? Their fiber is soft anf fluffy from the amniotic fluid and needs to be taken off at about a month. They show much better if that layer is taken off. But often you can't take it all the way down to the skin because of winter weather. Do you carry a gaurd to lift the blade off the skin and give it an even cut?
Thanks,
Sue Hanson

Hi

We do not have a "guard" to give you an even cut off the skin. It is unlikely it would be successful even if we did; the cria fleece is so fine it would not comb through well. The best comb we have for something like your tipping is the Phantom S. The S equals Sharp!! The tips on this comb have no bevel - that means they cut where/when they touch, so they are definitely ONLY for off-the-skin use. These are very popular with the people who show their sheep "in fleece" - they use this blade to shape the wool to the correct conformational look.
