Putting animals down

When I have a ewe that is down and obviously not recovering, I need a humane way to put the animal down. I do not keep guns on the farm. I hate to stand by and watch them waste away when they cannot recover. Calling in a vet is cost prohibitive given that it costs over $100 for the farm call/procedure.

A small .22 rifle for just this purpose would be cheaper than one vet call.
If this in not an option talk to your vet about buying a device that uses a
small powder charge to put the animal down. It is similar to the device
that is used to drive nails into cement.
