Diffrence between ID, Ear tags and Tatoos

I am new to gaot farming and would like to find what is the diffence of usage for ID, Tatoos and ear tags. What type of infomation we can record on them.

If you use a tattoo you are limitted to letters and #'s. If you use ear tags you
can put what ever you want on them. You also can use different colors to
mark different bucks or for each year.
