Intellishock 12B

Hi, we just started using our battery fence charger, but are getting very little charge out of either 4 D batteries or a 9V battery. We first used it on a single section of electronet. There was just enough current to deter lambs from chewing on the wire - they tried! Now we have it hooked up to 2 inch tape for a temporary horse corral. The charge is so weak, we can feel a tingle with our hands, but not enough shock to jolt us. We are using the built-in ground rod - ground is damp so we figured this should be sufficient. The light is blinking when we turn it on. Any ideas on how we can increase the shock????

I don't work at Premier, but I was at the field day run by the New England Premier rep a few weeks ago. Dave demonstrated your situation to us, and I was really surprised to see what a little extra ground can do. He held a fence tester to a fence that showed a low charge, and then leaving the tester on the fence, he tapped the ground rod deeper. With each tap the charge at the fence got a lot better. It was just a little battery charger like yours (but I don't remember if it was a 12B), and just a foot of extra ground more than doubled the charge at the fence. He said that a larger charger would need more than an extra foot of ground to double the output at the fence. His advice (if I remember it correctly) was to keep adding ground untill the tester on the fence stops showing improvement. He said that some of the larger units need a dozen deep ground rods spaced 10 feet apart.

Hi Todd, thank you for the response! That makes sense, as during our 4 days with our horses in the temp corral, the charge got stronger, probably because it kept raining! So, I think you are right, the built-in ground is just not enough and we will need to install a more robust ground!
