hot clippers

I bought a pair of premier 1000 last July. The dealer talked me into buying them saying they were one of the best they had. The first time we used it, it got so hot, it gave my daughter a blister. This is not even finishing shearing one lamb. I just thought she was plugging up the vents. The next day trying to finish the 1st lamb, they got hot again. They were so hot they were burning up the clipper blades. Still Im thinking were not using them right or were doing something wrong here. We have sheared 3 lambs in Aug, Sept, and Oct., so I used them 9 times, still getting hot. Took them back to the dealer, before the owner got there, they agreed they were getting hot. But the owner said thats the way they do. He would buy them back but he wouldnt give me half what I paid for them. He wouldnt exchange them or give me my money back either. So now heres May and used them for the 2nd time this season. Still getting hot. Still not even getting 1 lamb sheared. Still burning up the clipper blades. These were brand new clippers. Am I screwed? I dont want to have to buy new ones and I dont want to pawn off bad clippers to someone.. I could send them to premier to look at, but how long will that take and I really dont want to have to spend money for something to be repaired when I bought them to work right. Anything I can do? Im oiling them correctly and following instructions, so I dont think thats it. We wash and dry our sheep before we clip, so am I doing something wrong?

That is like to problem that we are having. My son said that the clippers were getting hot and that is when we started having problems with our clippers. We went and bought a new set of blades that I read were compatable with the premier clippers and it did the same thing to those blades (which cost close to $40). I was hoping that someone from Premier would answer as to what I should do with these clippers. I guess that I will have to call the company for my answers.
thanks
Merry

I had hoped that a person from Premier would answer this by now, but they have not. I am a Premier customer, and I am far from an expert. I have had your problem though....

I taught myself to shear over 20 years ago when it was hard to find somebody to come out to do a few sheep. I have read, and I watch Kevin Ford demonstrate every chance I get. (Kevin is a New England based shearing professional who puts on demonstrations at various shep functions).

These are some lessons that I have learned. Remember, I am still not very good (at least speed wise). and I still learn a lot everytime I watch a pro shear a sheep. Along the way, I have burned out a shearing machine, and broken a lot of combs.

1. Do one sheep at a time as you learn. Even now I only do 2 or 3 sheep per day.

2. Use lots of oil. The Premier product in the little squeeze bottle is great. I oil the clippers 2 or 3 times per sheep. Why so often?, because I am slow. My clipper may do as many cycles for one sheep, as a pro will use on five. You can hear the clipper motor start to strain, and as you add oil it speeds right up again. A straining clipper heats up fast.

3. Use sharp combs and cutters. I usually get only one sheep out of a new set, and 2 or 3 out of a freshly sharpened set. Some guys use 2 cutters per comb, but I change them together. A freshly sharpened set by Premier is better than new. The local yokels just don't do it as well as Premier. Why do I only get 2 or 3 sheep per set? As with the oil, my clipper makes far more cycles per sheep than it would if I were faster.

To add to the above. ....when you have to add too much tension to get the machine to cut, it is time to change out the blade. Too much tension will heat up your clippers FAST
