Electric fence

I am considering an electric fence to keep deer out of a small rose garden that already has a secure 10ft chain link fence along one side. Is it necessary for an electric fence to make a complete circuit of all 4 sides?

No, just run the wire on 3 sides, it does not have to make a loop

An electric fence can stop anywhere it does not need to make a complete
circuit.

How reliable are the 42 inch poultry netting fences at keeping coyotes out? Will a coyote try to jump the fence? Maybe I should have bought the 48 inch fence?

I am hoping to be able to leave my 8 chickens in an area enclosed by 300 feet of 42 inch high electric poultry netting while I'm not at home. We live in the woods of NH where there are foxes and coyotes. I am very conscientious about keeping the weeds down and regulary testing the fence for adaquate voltage. I'm just worried that a determined coyote might think to jump the fence.

Oh, and while I'm asking, do you think this electric fencing will help against mink? We once had a mink attack during the day. Of course it went right through the non-electric fence we used to use. Any chance a mink is likely to get shocked trying to go through and then run away?

PS. One more question, what about bears? We once had a bear tear the door off the chicken house at night and eat 2 chickens, as well as drag off the feeder and chew that up too. Chicken dinner with a side of grain. Will an electric poultry net deter bears in the day time? I do lock the birds up at night, and have also installed 4 strands of electric tape all around the hen house to try to deter any more bears. So far no more bears for the last few months.
