rain and worms

We have been getting a ton of rain in NW Indiana. Our ewes are on pasture and have been wormed twice this spring before putting them into "clean pastures. A few years ago we had the same situation and we fought worm problems all summer long. My question is in general is rainy weather a better environment for all types of worms even in clean pastures? and should we plan on worming again this spring/summer?

the best way to answer this is to take fecal samples to your vet and
see what your worm load is.This will tell you if you need to worm again.

I am no sheep expert having only recently bought my first flock, but have been doing a lot of research on parasite control the last couple of days. From what I have read worm larvae will tend to die off (not totally) during hot DRY weather, but in hot, moist weather such as you describe - well that makes for happy, productive worm larvae .... regardless of how clean or safe the pasture had been.

This apparently is why western areas, with their tendency toward dry climate don't have the problems with worms that we have in the S. E.
