ground rods

My fence charger is installed on top of a hill at the barn. The ground around it stays dry most of the time. 300 to 400 yard down hill the fence goes through a swampy area that is damp year round. My question is can I install my ground rods in the swampy area and use the top strand of my 6 strand fence as a negative strand to carry the ground back to my fence charges? Or do I have to install the ground rods at the fence chargers location.

You can use the top strand as the ground wire . The only problem
is that you are giving lightning a bigger target to hit and damage your
charger.

The ground rods can be almost any where as long as they are connected
to the ground terminal of the energizer.

I placed my ground rods under the dripline at the back of the shed where my fencer is stored. Its always wet there with even a little bit of rain. As a bonus its also on the North side so it doesn't get direct sunlight. Its was interesting to see the improvement when I added a second ground rod too.
