Electric fence on chicken coop

A bear got into my chicken coop and got all four hens. It lifted up the top which is about five or six feet in the air, then reached in to do the damage. I have kids so I'd rather not have an electric fence at ground level around the entire coop & run. I'm wondering if I could install an electric fence around just the top of the coop that would shock the bear if it tries again. The coop is about 3'x3'. I'd want the wire/cable to be very strong so it couldn't be easily broken. I know absolutely nothing about electric fencing. Is there something that would work for me?

Mke,
An electric fence around the top would probably work very well. The Intellitwine Extra would be the conductor that I would use in this situation. Without more specifics, I do not know which energizer will work best for you.
Thank you,

If I were to simply enclose the perimeter of the coop along the top--a total of 12 feet, or 24 feet if I wrap it around twice, what size energizer would be enough to repel a bear?

The perimeter of the coop is about 12 feet. If I wrap wire around twice, I only need 24 feet of wire. What energizer will be strong enough to shock a bear?

For a plug in unit I would say probably the Kube 3000. For a battery/solar unit the Intellishock 20B.

I'd like to put an electric wire on the outside of the 3' x 3' coop -- about 12 feet in total, or 24 feet if I go around twice. What energizer will be enough to repel a bear?

The same units will work for you. For a plug in unit I would use the Kube 3000. For a battery/solar unit the Intellishock 20B.
