mandatory tag question

I need to order more mandatory white scrapie tags via our state vet. I always ask for the Premier ones, plus a tagger. We get 200 at a time. Just don't have quite enough for all the expected lambs.

Your catalog shows them with the animal number on each side now. Is this new? Our current 2X white tags only have the animal number on one side. It is always the wrong side to read if installed per instructions (post towards the skull). The number is towards the ear opening and gets dirty right away.

We use colored flock tags for potential replacement ewe lambs but scrapie tag everything right away. So they work as ID tags for the wethers and single ewe lambs. Then when they leave, we don't have to tag a larger, stronger animal.

Thanks for any info.

If you would like to order the free tags then you need to contact your state APHIS office at 866-USDA TAG. Otherwise if you would like to order the tags that you pay for, you can order those directly from us. You have more choices of colors, styles and options. If those are the ones you want then just let us know your flock number, the type of tag that you wish (available are the 2xte and the mini tags) what 4 or 5 digit animal ID numbers you wish imprinted on the tag and then on the male side of the tag there are 2 lines that you can customize as you wish.

If you have other questions, just let me know. Thank you

I guess I didn't ask my question clearly, or I get confused easily. Do the free, white mandatory tags have the animal number on both sides? Or do I have to pay for the tags to get that? Thanks.

If your state issues a premise tag as the free tag, then the animal ID number would be on both sides. If your state issues the non-premise tags then the serialized aninal ID number would be on the female side only.

If you pay for the tags, the animal ID number would have to be on the female side and then you can choose to put it on the male side as well.

Hope this helps. Thanks

OK, can you tell me if Wisconsin issues a premise tag as the free tag? Or how can I find out? Calling the state USDA number for ordering tags is useless for asking questions, since it is only voicemail.

Thanks again. Obviously we don't want to pay for custom, double-numbered tags if it's not necessary. We are in compliance with premises registration.

I believe that WI uses the premise numbered tags. Thanks

Thanks, I just ordered 300 through the state APHIS phone number recording. Had a choice of metal or plastic so I said plastic. Specified Premier 2X and asked for an applicator to be included. Hope this works but you never know with the recordings. We just don't have enough on hand to finish out this lambing season.
