Brass ear tags

I have apparently incorrectly applied a brass ear tag to a lamb. His ear is droopy and he shakes it a lot. I think I got it to close to the center of his ear (dang things are little on shetlands!). Is there an easy way to remove the tag w/o further damaging his ear? If it weren't obviously bothering him I would just leave it alone but its been 3 days since I put it in and it is still bothering him.
