tightening older fence

I installed green cote barbed wire several years ago, however with some wear (and hitting it with farm implements) a few sections need tightening. I installed as instructed, so will be able to tighten the fence in the middle of a section as it is anchored at the end posts. I used a hayes strainer in the middle of the section, and was going to use a gripple, but when pulling, the green cote barbed wire snapped. The site of the break was not rusted, was not on a post or under a staple, nor had the coating seemed to be damaged. What is your recommendation for tightening the fence? Also, how would you re-tighten the hi-tensile green cote (mesh) field fence as well?

The Hayes strainer should do what you are wanting it to do with the Barb Wire. You have to be careful that the wire is not overly 'kinked' when you are tightening it, otherwise it will snap. You can use the Daisy Strainers as well, but you may have to work the barbed wire through the opening. That way you wouldn't have to worry about the kink or cutting the wire. You should loosen it from the line posts in order to get the wire tight evenly down the run.

For the woven wire, you have 2 options.
1. Cut the wire in the middle, unhook it from the posts and then use 2 woven wire clamps to pull it tight and hold it will you splice it together.

2. Use Daisy strainers somewhere in the middle of the run on each strand. Again it's better if you loosen the wire from the line posts.
