Would board fencing (for horses) keep a cow in?

We are considering buying a horse farm with about 8 acres fenced with very nice board fencing. We have no interest in owning horses, but might be interested in buying a calf to raise for beef. Would the board fencing keep a cow in?

Mae,
I would use 2 strands of offset hot rope (Intellirope 4.5) on your board fence. The board fence would probably keep them in, but they would be able to rub/push/stick their heads through it. With the offset hot ropes they won't be able to do that and the board fence would last much longer.
