coordinate with chain link?

I have a chicken yard 55x80 with 5 foot chain link fencing. We've had a bear and a bobcat get over the fence and take chickens, which caused us to give away the survivors. I'd like to get chickens again, but need a way to protect them. The chicken yard has three big apple trees and a number of smaller shrubs of various kinds, which I'd rather not have to cut down. I've been trying to think of ideas.

Should I run electric netting outside the chain link? (by about a foot or so). One problem with that is that two of the sides are on the property boundary.

Should I run two rows of tape above the chain link? If so, I'd need some kind of post that could attach to the chain link. Ideas?

Or perhaps two or more rows of tape on the outside of the chain link by 6 inches or so?
So that a predator trying to climb the chain link would get a shock.

Should I run a short width of netting from the chain link fence up? Again I'd need some kind of post that would integrate with the chain link.

We also have cats, and would want to be sure that whatever we decide upon wouldn't hurt them.

I've been dithering for two years on this question. My baby chicks arrived today, so I have about six weeks to solve my problem. Thanks for your help.

Lynnet,
Netting would be the most secure set on the outside of the fence. Since that is your boundary, you probably won't be able to go that route.
I would use 2 strands of an electrified wire on the outside of the chain link. I think you will have better luck if you put them closer to the ground instead of at the top. That will discourage the animals from climbing up in the first place. For your purpose, the Intellirope 4.5 would work. You will need a Chain link Insulator (item 391500) every 12-15'.
