Andy,
The single spike netting has 1 metal spike on each post that goes into the ground. On the double spike netting, there are 2 metal spikes that form an 'h' that go into the ground. The single spike is fine in most soils, however the double spike is more stable in really soft soils (sandy loam).

Also, I don' want to use poisons or herbicides to keep weeds down under the fence. My main predators are raccoons, possums and rats. What are the other options? Thank you

The rain itself does not interfere with the net. However, every blade of grass/weed that touches the net takes away a little bit of energy. When the grass is wet (dew or rain) it takes away more energy because the moisture is such a good conductor. That is why it is important to keep the grass/weeds to a minimum with any electric fence. If there is just some grass on the fence, then most energizers can handle the 'drain' and still have enough power to deter the animals.

If you don't want to spray herbicides, then you will need to move the net periodically and mow underneath of it. How often will depend on the grass growth rate- spring and early summer you may need to move it every 1-3 weeks. Later in the year when it slows down you may only have to move it 1 a month. wrote:
