Poultrynet draining battery?

We set up the PoultryNet 12/48/3 in an irrigated grass pasture. We trimmed the grass where the fence was to go, with a weedwhacker, before setting it up. My husband thinks that the bottom line touching the ground will drain the battery of the Patriot energizer, so he won't energize the fence. Can you explain why or why not this would be an issue? Thank you.

The very bottom black line is more or less a guide line for the netting. It does not have any metal filaments running in it. The first hot wire is the 2 nd line 2 inches from the bottom. So the bottom line should run along the ground.
