Distance from energizer to fence
Author: Lawrence

Hello to all.

My distance from the energizer to the fence is 450 feet. I have a Speedrite 12000i energizer which is hooked to the main. I have a 1000 foot roll of the 12.5g double insulated wire. I might eventually run 2 miles of seven strand fence.

Will one wire from the energizer to the fence be adequate with regard to voltage drop or should I consider using two or more hot wires to the fence? What are the advantages\ disadvantages of one vs multiple wires in this situation?

Regards,

Lawrence

Lawrence,
1 of the insulated wires to your fence should be adequate. The benefit of using the insulated wire is that there is little to no leakage from it and you can also bury it if you want. If you use the 2 or more hot wires, you have 2 lines of current, but you also lose some of the voltage. 36' of ground rod is good. I doubt if you will need any more than that.
Thank you,
