black bear

i have a vegatable garden that's approx. 25" X 40'. Currently fenced with green, hooked fence posts and 5' of poultry wire. Last night bear bent the corner metal post in half ad climbed over to destroy some raised beds. What electric fencing would be most effective to deter the little mother f**kers?

Ed,
You have a couple of different options here. The first one would be to run 2-3 strands of Intellirope PE 4.5 (or similar) on the outside of your existing fence. You may be able to hook the insulators directly to the posts you are using. This option will probably be the least costly, but will take a little more time to install.

The other option would be to use one of our electric nettings- the two that we've been using for bear control is the ElectroNet 9/35/12 (35" height) with a lighter post, or the PermaNet 10/48/6 (48" height and a thicker post). Both have been working well to keep bear out of bee hives. This option is usually a little more costly, but installs pretty quick.

In either situation, the same energizer would work. You have the option of using a plug-in energizer, a battery energizer (you charge the battery regularly), or a battery/solar option.
