4000s Shearing

Just used the 4000s (with 13 tooth comb) for the first time on our alpacas. Went to clean the head, and then reassembled the comb and cutting blade following the instructions in the manual--word for word. Made several attempts to get it right--each time the machine started up properly, then after stopping it would not restart. The cutting blade locked up and would only move if banged gently against a wall. What gives?
