How to Joules
Author: Abraham

Normally we check our electric fences using a digital voltmeter, but it has come to my attention that perhaps a better measure would be joules, is that right ? how do I take a reading ? it seems I would have to know the resistence, are there any fudge factors for 12.5 gauge wire ?? (I use only solar with deep-cycle)

Thank you,

Joules would be the actual measure of power on the fence. To test this correctly it would cost about $1500 for the meter. Because of the high cost farmers have always tested for volts instead.

As long as you have 3000 volts or more on your fence you should have enough power (joules) to stop animals from going in or out.

Thanks, Gordon
