Do nets shrink over time?

We have several sheep nets (Electronet 9/35/12). We are planning to subdivide our pastures soon. We were thinking that we'd space semi-permanent fences 160 feet apart so that we could then "leap frog" the nets through the subdivisions. We have heard that the nets can shrink a little overtime--hence the 160 feet spacing instead of 164 feet. Will the nets shrink more than 4ft.? Should we space the semi-permanent fences closer (156') to accommodate more shrinkage?

Thank you for any advice you might have.

Sincerely,

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for contacting Premier 1 Supplies! Netting is made from polyethylene which normally doesn't shrink. As it turns out, what can cause the difference in the length is where it is cut while be manufactured. Like many situations, human error should be accounted. If it is cut at a one less strut or one strut more, then some footage can be lost at the ends due to length needed to be tied around the end posts. Therefore, you should not have to accommodate for shrinking in your nets.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!
