dry ground

We have dry ground here from spring to fall. Does the ground need to have moisture for the fence to work or just the ground stake? We can keep the ground damp by the ground stake if that is the case.

If the soil is dry the POS/NEG fence is best. Keeping the ground rod wet helps but if the soil is very dry having a pos/neg is better. This way when the animal hits a hot wire and a grounded wire they will get a good shock.

How dry is too dry? Will this factor show up on your voltage meter?

To tell if your area is to dry test the ground rod. To do this make a dead short on the fence and take the volt meter and put the positive point on the ground rod and the ground prong in the soil. If it reads less then 300 volts you are good. If it reads more then 300 volts your soil is dry or you need more ground rod. Or when testing the fence if you have a good reading close to the ground rod and as you are moving away from the ground rod down the fence line the reading is dropping this may be a sign also the ground is to dry. I hope this helps.

Please let me know if you have any questions I am happy to help.
Thank You,
Sara
