false labor in my ewe

One of our ewes is four years old and this is her third pregnancy. last evening she started exhibiting signs of lambing. up and down and looked like some severe contractions.
No sign of any water sac or any other discharges. Finally gloved up and checked her.
Was not dilated at all. appetite is good. Could she be having a false labor. Have had sheep for a number of years and have never experienced this problem.
